Brad Lackey was the 1972 500cc National Champion and in 1982, became the first American to win
the World 500cc Motocross Championship. To this day, no other American has duplicated what took
Lackey over 10 years to achieve.
He started riding motorcycles when he was 9 years old. Brad
and his dad traveled the circuit with the Europeans in ’70-71 and that got him hooked.
He got
the opportunity to go to a training camp in Czechoslovakia, a Communist country at the time.
He was riding a Czech bike called a CZ. Brad will be riding Diamond Don’s CZ dubbed the
“Ditch Witch” at the races in Jefferson. Man, can he make that bike go. Lackey joined Team Honda
in 1977 and finished second in 1978. Lackey also claims the 2000 Over 40 AHRMA Expert Championship.
